Mt. Kenya National Parks

Mt. Kenya is an extinct Volcano and has two Peaks; Batian 5200meters and Nelion at 5188meters which are covered by snow. It is surrounded by an indigenous forest measuring 2095 Kms. This is a water catchments area supplying Tana and Northern Ewaso Nyiro System. The park is a World Heritage site as inscribed by UNESCO in 1997. It is 140 Km North-East of Nairobi and accessible by tarmac road. There is an airstrip at Nanyuki. The mountain itself is challenging to mountain climbers who use various routes to reach its peaks.
There various cottages, huts and bands fir climbers and mountaineers. Major hotels are Mountain Lodge ( Serena Hotels ) and Mt. Kenya Safari Club- Nanyuki.
